Croups forum > London Marathon Training 20 miler

Hi All,
I am organising a 20 mile training run from Leckwith on Sunday 4th April. It is an ideal last long run before London. The run takes in Barry and Penarth and although these districts are hilly, my route picks out a mildly undulating course. The distance is pretty accurate and I will be providing a back up with water etc. Lockers are available with showers after and the run is open to anybody, not just Les Croups members. As Leckwith doesn't open until 10.00 am, we will be commencing at 10.30 am

I did this a few years ago. Very nice route, but as Mel said.....fairly hilly!! For locals of Barry though, they will say it's 'pancake' flat. (Never understood that saying myself, I only made pancakes once and they were well lumpy?!?)

Thanks Mel - will hopefully be there

(Wouter/Mike R - fancy a hilly 20 ?!!)

Sounds good to me Mel.
Looking forward to it.
I`m sure the car park is always open at Leckwith if you want a slightly earlier start.

Hi Mel, I'm there as well. Lliving at the top of Leckwith Hill and running regularly in Michaelston-le-pitt, Dinas Powis etc, everyone should have a good time.

this is a good coarse, seaing as you won't have numbers on you won't run it as if it's a race. it's a more social training run, any undlating bits arn't that bad.

Just to put this thread back up on the recently posted. Everything OK for Sunday, everyone welcome (not just Les Croups) should anyone(friends ,wives or partners etc) be free to help on route, please let me know, it would make it a little easier. Please let me know asap or even as late as Sun. morning.

apologies - too much sun - I meant a 10 30 start time

it's still 10:30

Sara,
Yes it's still 10.30 am as Alan said. I had to start that late, because the track doesn't open until 10.00 am. You can leave your bags in the lockers whilst running and have a shower after if required. I will have route details etc on Sun. morning. The route is not that hilly, although we go through Barry and Penarth. I have chosen the easiest route, with only steady climbs.

Many thanks to Mel, and everyone else who was out of the course supporting and providing drinks.
I have to say that I found conditions very tough today. The wind was very blustery, and the course was more undulating than I remembered (or am I just getting old). When I got home I found that my face was covered in salt - which is a stronger indicator of the dehydrating nature of the conditions. So for those of you who are perhaps about to enter your first marathon - don't get put off too much by this morning - I think everyone found this a tough day.

I'd like to echo Mick's sentiments. Many thanks to Mel and his team for today. It was quite tough, but as the saying goes, "The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle".

Thanks Mel and support crew. It was a really good training run, just hope the legs feel better in London. Maria really enjoyed it as well. Thanks again for organising
