Croups forum > Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon

Hi everyone,
I am new to the club having only been running for two years so not a lot of members know me.

Last July I ran my first half marathon, from Wolverhampton to the centre of Birmingham, the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon. The race is unique in that there is no mass start, you start at a given time worked out on your estimated race time.
The race is along the 200 year old main line canal built by Thomas Telford durring the industrial revolution, an even though it is flat, the bridges that used to allow the towing path to go over the many wharf entrances are still there, so its still a lot of "upping and downing".
The Cosely and Galton tunnels also offer a different challenge to the runner.
The canal is open to boats and the other unique part of this race is the water points are manned by canal boat enthusiasts with their boats.
The finish at Brindley Place in the centre of Birminghams "Waterworld" is great, a towels throw from some great pubs!!
last year we had a drink with some of the boaters after the race so we know a great real ale pub!

Any way this years race in on Saturday July 3rd. I will be travelling up from caerphilly on the Friday.
Last year we stopped on a boat the first night but it was basic! This year it will be hotel for two nights.
I organised rooms at the Jurys hotel 8 minutes walk from the finishing line, last year twins at £25 per person sharing per night, no breakfast included but theres loads of places to go for that.

On saturday morning we get a 1 way train ticket for the twenty min trip to Wolverhampton and the race start.

The full race details are on runners world, but if anyone is interested in coming along for a race and then a beer or three let me know!

I am running this years race in memory of croups member Dave Furness "Hovis" who died last October, Dave ran this race with me last year as his first half.
